Giant Forest Ant (Dinomyrmex gigas)

  • Dinomyrmex gigas or the Giant Forest Ant is one of the largest ants in existence. It is a native of the South East Asian Forest.
  • It measures 20.9 mm for normal workers and 28.1 mm for the soldiers.
  • Its habitats range from peat swamps and mangrove forests to the mountain forests at 1500 m above sea level.
  • The Dinomyrmex gigas normally looks for food at night.
  • Dinomyrmex gigas builds its nests underground in the soil , at tree bases or fallen wood.
